Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), founded in 1782, is Hungary's leading technical university and one of the oldest institutions of higher education in engineering in Europe. The Institutum Geometrico-Hydrotechnicum, which was established in 1782 and was the first institution in Europe to train engineers in university structure, is the direct antecedent of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME).
